Founded in 1964, Oiwakeya Ryokan in Matsumoto City's Utsukushigahara Onsen area established Domaine de Yunohara winery in August 2023. Third-generation owner Hidetoshi Hanaoka, originally a certified sommelier who enhanced the ryokan's appeal with wine service, conceived the winery after reflecting on new possibilities post-COVID. Located in the Yamabe district, known as Nagano's birthplace of grape cultivation, the winery carefully nurtures old vines of Niagara and Delaware grapes, including those on fallow land, aiming to revive vineyards and preserve the landscape. The goal is to produce wines that pair harmoniously with the ryokan's traditional kaiseki cuisine.
