Situated in the historic Yamabe region of Matsumoto City at 600-850 meters elevation beneath the Utsukushigahara Plateau, Yamabe Winery benefits from ideal viticultural conditions including significant diurnal temperature variation and extended sunlight hours. This area holds the distinction of being the birthplace of grape cultivation in Nagano Prefecture, where generations of experienced local farmers have perfected the art of nurturing exceptional fruit. Yamabe Winery maintains unwavering commitment to terroir expression, crafting wines exclusively from 100% Matsumoto-grown grapes including Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Gris sourced from both trusted contracted growers and their own meticulously maintained vineyards. Since founding, they have steadfastly avoided bulk or concentrate imports, ensuring authenticity in every bottle. Their white wines benefit from careful low-temperature fermentation, while red wines receive traditional hand-punching (pigeage), resulting in richly flavored "Yamabe Wines" that eloquently express this historic region's unique terroir characteristics.
